Property Taxes
Tom Allen voted for a property tax reevaluation, which reportedly quadrupled property taxes for some Maine residents. 1, 2, 3
As Mayor, Allen supported a tax scheme that shifted the tax burden from business to homeowners. 4
One resident was even forced to put his home up for sale. 5
Angry citizens in Portland called the Allen plan "economic suicide,"6 and a portion of the city even voted to secede from Portland altogether. 7
